1. Dualsub – Translate Subtitles
Dualsub is a Chrome extension that shows subtitles in two languages on YouTube. It displays subtitles in the language selected by you along with English by default. Once you add this YouTube subtitle translator to your Chrome browser, an icon appears on the top right corner.
However, the icon does not help you to set any language. To set the language, open the video on YouTube, you will see a small box named DS just below the title of the video on YouTube. The box contains two columns where the first column is set as default to English. The other column can be your preferred language. See the image below.
In the screenshot above, the first column defaults to English. The second column has German which I selected. After setting my preferred language, the video subtitles are automatically converted to that language. Then, it displays subtitles in two languages at once on the screen. You can even drag this subtitle section anywhere on the screen. You can change any language as this extension offers hundreds of languages.
2. Two captions for YouTube, Netflix & Amazon
This YouTube Subtitle Translator extension is somewhat similar to the extensions mentioned above. The name itself reveals that it translates the subtitles into two languages and displays them simultaneously on the screen. It not only works with YouTube but also with Netflix and Amazon.
You can simply add this YouTube subtitle translator to your Chrome browser. An icon appears next to the address bar. You have to click on the icon to set the subtitle language preference. It has two functions. First, you have to click on the CC button shown on the YouTube video screen to start the caption. Second, you have to enable the second language subtitles from the extension interface. It supports 100s of languages.
You can also add space between the 2 subtitles shown to understand them properly. To do this, you can go to the settings tab next to the main section. You can see how it looks from the image below.
Here, I have set my translation language to French. The default English text will also be displayed on the side. After this setting, it will be automatically translated to French. Apart from that, you can see the settings options where you can enable the space between the two languages to understand them better.
