In this tutorial, I will show you how to convert PDF to animated GIF with the help of free software to convert PDF to animated GIF. This popular software is named GIMP. It is actually an open source image editing software but it also provides this very useful feature. While there are many other image editors available too, the feature to convert PDF to GIF doesn’t exist in any software (if I’m not mistaken).
GIF is a format for image exchange. It is a graphic format capable of storing compressed data without loss of quality in a format of no more than 256 colors. The GIF format was developed in 1987 (GIF87a) by the company CompuServe to transfer raster images over a network. In 1989, the format was modified (GIF89a) to add transparency and animation support.
How to Convert PDF Into Animated GIF Using GIMP Software
Using GIMP, you can set the speed as well as the FPS for the GIF output. You can also preview the animated GIF before saving it to PC. The zoom level for all PDF pages can also be set during preview.
Apart from that, you can also check the frames (or PDF pages) one by one and finally process the input PDF to get the output GIF. Here are the steps to Convert PDF Into Animated GIF using GIMP Software:
Step 1: Download the setup file (about 194 MB) of the GIMP software and then install it.
Step 2: When the interface is opened, add a PDF file (containing multiple pages) with the default options. Or else, you can also use options like change width and height, set resolution for PDF pages, set page range or add all pages, etc.
Step 3: When the PDF is imported, access the menu Filters → Animation → and select Playback. Check out the screenshot added below.
Step 4: The Play Animation window will open separately, as seen in the first screenshot. Now, you can set the speed, zoom level, and Frames Per Second for the GIF file. You can also jump to the next and previous frames, and play the GIF to check if the output looks good.
Step 5: Now close the Animation Playback window and you will arrive at the main interface. Here, click options Export As in the Files menu.
Step 6: When the Export window opens, select the destination folder. Also, expand Choose File Type and click on the GIF Image option. Check out the screenshot added below.
After that, use the button Export and it will save GIF output.
Step 7: You will be presented with a small window, in that window, you have to select an option As animation. Apart from that, you can also activate the option Loop Forever to play endlessly.
Finally, click on options Export and that’s it. Your PDF is converted to an animated GIF.
