Microsoft has just started rolling out a sizeable update to the Xbox Game Bar in Windows 10, this built-in feature can be accessed by pressing
Win + G. Windows 10’s game overlay feature can already be used for a variety of tasks including FPS counter, audio settings, controlling Spotify playback, and more.

Game Bar is a Windows 10 feature that allows users to stream gameplay and keep tabs on the system via widgets. Additionally, the Game Bar has widgets for monitoring GPU and CPU usage, taking screenshots, accessing the Xbox gallery, and finding groups on Xbox to play with.

Some Game bar widgets come pre-installed, but there are third-party widgets that you can install. Currently, there are very few third-party widgets that you can install and the widget store is still in beta.

Follow the steps below to install the Game bar widget in Windows 10:

1. Tap the keyboard shortcut Win + G to open the Game Bar.

2. Click button menu.

3. Select Store Widgets (Beta) from the menu.

4. The Store widget will open.

5. Select widget to see its function, and click Install when you are ready to install it.

6. Once the widget is installed, go to GameBar (Win + G).

7. Click button menu.

8. The newly installed widget will appear in the menu. Choose to open it.

All third party widgets in Game Bar can be uninstalled. Follow the steps below to uninstall Game bar widget in Windows 10:

1. Tap keyboard shortcut Win + G to open the Game Bar.

2. Click button menu.

3. From the menu, select Store Widgets (Beta).

4. In the Widget Store panel, go to the tab Installed.

5. Select widget which you want to delete.

6. Click button Uninstall and the widget will be removed.

Stock Widgets pre-installed with Game Bar cannot be removed. If it appears on the screen when you open the Game Bar, you can hide it so that it only appears in the menu.

Follow the steps below to hide the stock Game bar widget in Windows 10:

1. Tap the keyboard shortcut Win + G to open the Game Bar.

2. Click cross/close button at the top right of the widget to close it.

3. If the widget is pinned, click the button pin to let go, then closed.

4. To hide widget from Game bar, click button menu.

5. Click star button next to the widget and it will no longer appear in the Bar.

If you are using Game Bar, you should check out the new third party widgets. There is an extension called Browser and you can install it to open a web browser and play videos or surf the web while playing games.

  • Razer Gold & Silver.
  • XSplit, which could be a great replacement for Mixer streaming feature.

Microsoft has also added a new feature that lets you adjust the transparency of the widget so that the Game Bar doesn’t obscure the appearance of your game when you open the overlay. To change the transparency value, go to
Settings > Personalization.

According to ratings on the Microsoft Store, Game Bar isn’t very popular but it will be interesting to see how third-party extension support will improve the experience and whether developers will take advantage of this new Store for Xbox Game Bar.
