Using a whiteboard, book, or paper to tackle difficult concepts is nothing new. But using it on a video conferencing app does complicate the situation. The image that you see on your screen is mirrored. So it’s natural that your students see the image as a mirror too, and can’t read anything. Let’s see what to do in this situation.

You don’t need to do anything in such situation. Even though you see a mirror image at the end, participants can see the image, or rather the video correctly.

Are you using a regular camera or webcam to share textbooks, documents or boards with your students?, there is no need to panic. Google Meet does not mirror your video, and there is no setting to reverse it. But the mirroring that you see happens only on your side, and your students can see everything as it should.

To be able to mirror videos on Google Meet, we need a chrome extension called VideoMirror. VideoMirror is a Chrome extension that mirrors your screen. Follow the steps below for video mirroring on Google Meet:

Go to the Chrome web store and search for the extension VideoMirror. Or, click

to download it. Click on button Add to Chrome to install the extension.

A confirmation dialog box will appear on the screen. Click on button
Add extension to install it.

The icon for the extension will appear to the right of your chrome address bar with your other extensions if any.

For mirroring / mirroring video When in a meeting, click on the extension icon. It will mirror your screen, but since Google Meet already mirrors the screen, the extension will reset to its normal position.

Note that the extension only affects your screen and not the actual video. So it will have no effect on what other participants see, i.e., they will see your video without mirroring as you want.

Mirroring video on a Google Meet screen can be very confusing, especially considering the fact that most of us are new to working in virtual environments. And the fact that Google Meet doesn’t have a default setting to mirror your screen makes things even more complicated.
