How to Mute Meeting Attendees on Zoom (PC or Mobile App)

You can easily mute meeting participants in Zoom Meeting if you are the host on both desktop PC and mobile app. It’s easy to mute yourself and others on Zoom, although the process looks a little different on a desktop PC and a mobile app.

If you are the host of the meeting, you can mute the meeting participants or you may want to mute yourself especially if you are in a meeting or meeting in a large group.

With various options on desktop and mobile apps, you can choose to mute yourself, individual callers, or all participants. The process looks a little different in both apps but the same i.e. tapping or clicking the mute symbol. You can also open the menu “Manage Participants” to mute or unmute all members.

How to Mute Meeting Attendees on Zoom (Desktop PC)

1. On Zoom call desktop, move your cursor on the option that appears in the Zoom participant box. This will also open the lower toolbar.

2. Click the microphone option “Mute” in the bottom left corner. Click again to mute. This mutes your own microphone – the other person on the call will no longer be able to hear you.

3. Hover over the participant you want to mute. Click the button “Mute” to mute participants. You can also right-click or click the three dots to open a pop-up menu. Click “Mute Audio.” Once the participant is muted, you can follow the same steps to activate it again.

4. To manage all your participants as meeting hosts, you can click on the tab “Manage Participants” in the lower toolbar. A number will show how many people are currently calling.

5. This will open a sidebar where the microphone and video icons are next to each participant. The host will be labeled as well.

6. As the host, you can hover the mouse over the microphone to mute the participant. blue button”Mute” or “Unmute” will appear.

7. You can also click on the option “Mute All” or “Unmute All” at the bottom. This will open a pop-up. You can check the box that allows participants to mute themselves. If so, the caller will receive a message that reads, “The host would like to mute/unmute your microphone,” when you make changes.

8. Click “Continue” to complete the changes.

1. Open Zoom Call on your phone, tap to open the bottom menu. You will see a mute microphone icon in the bottom left corner. Tap it to deactivate yourself.

2. You can also tap on the volume button on the top left corner so that “X” appears above the speaker icon. However, this will only mute the sound on this device app – it’s important to note this is not the same as muting yourself or another participant. Tap this option again to play the sound again. Tap the icon “Unmute” microphone in the lower left corner to mute yourself.

3. To manage all video participants, tap the tab “Participants” in the below section.

4. This will open a pop-up. Tap a participant to mute their audio. The microphone icon next to each name will reflect the change. Tap their name again and tap “Unmute Audio” to reverse the change.

5. To mute all participants, tap “Mute All” in the lower right corner, then tap the blue button “Mute All” to confirm the changes. You can check the option to allow participants to mute themselves if you want.

6. Tap the option “Unmute All” to cancel the action.

7. Tap “Close” to close the Participants window after you are done.
