How to Use Windows 10's Timer, Alarm and Stopwatch Features

Timer is a special feature of the clock which is used to set predefined time intervals. The timer is operated in measuring the time period. When the clock reaches the specified time duration, it shows the time with the use of a beep or notification. In everyday life, practical timers are very useful.

Unlike previous versions of Windows, Windows 10 offers a “Timer” in “Alarms & ClockTheir app. Windows 10 has an Alarm & Clock app that can set alarms, accommodate clocks from multiple time zones, and run timers and stopwatches. They all work within the app which means if you need time on your desktop, you have to look outside the app. .

In this article, I will share the steps on how to use Timer, alarm and stopwatch in Windows 10. Here is how you can set Timer, alarm and stopwatch in Windows 10.

How to Set and Use the Timer

In the application “Alarms & Clock“, switch to tab “TimerHere, you can see any timers that you have set up (or default timers if this is your first time visiting the app).

Click the button “Play” to start the timer. Button “Reset” double function: if the timer is not running, it will open an edit page where you can change the timer. If the timer is running, button “Reset” reset the timer.

Clicking the button “Expand” (double-headed arrow) expands the timer to fill the full screen, as shown below. Click the “Expand” button again on this screen to return to normal view.

To create a new timer, click the button plus (+) in the lower right corner. Use the scroll wheel to set the time, and then click the link under “Timer name” to name your timer. Unlike the alarm feature, you cannot set different sounds for different timers. When finished, click the “Save“.

When your timer finishes, you will receive a notification above the Windows system tray. Click the button “Dismiss” to stop the timer sound.

To clear the timer, click the button “Select Alarms” at the bottom right of the “Alarm & Clock” window. Select the timer you want to delete, then click the button “Delete“.

How to Set and Use an Alarm

Press Start Menu, type “alarm” into the search box, and then click the result “Alarms & ClockYou can turn an existing alarm on and off by clicking on the switch to the right of it. To create a new alarm, click the button plus (+) in the lower right corner.

Use the scroll wheel to set the time, then click the link below each of the remaining items to configure the name of the alarm, whether the alarm repeats (and on what day), the sound to use, and how long to press the snooze button. When finished, click the “Save“.

Once done, your new alarm is activated automatically, but you can turn it on or off like any other alarm.

When your alarm goes off, you will receive a notification above the Windows system tray. Click the button “Dismiss” to stop the timer or button sound “Snooze” to delay the clock for a predetermined time. You can even use the dropdown to adjust the amount of snooze time you get.

To delete an alarm, click the button “Select Alarms” at the bottom right of the “Alarms & Clock” window. Select the alarm you want to delete, and then click the “Delete“.

How to Set and Use a Stopwatch

The stopwatch is very easy to use. Unlike alarms and timers, you only have one stopwatch. When the stopwatch is stopped, you can click the button “Reset” on the left of the watch to reset the clock to 00:00. To start the watch, click the button “Play“.

While the stopwatch is running, you can pause the watch, or click on the flag icon to record lap times while leaving the clock running.

Red Thread | “Alarm & Clock” in my opinion is actually a very useful feature. Unfortunately, it is not fully integrated into the system, which means that you still have to use it as a standalone application. Therefore, you might want to pin it to the Start menu or taskbar if you plan to use it frequently.
