Definition of Motivation

Motivation refers to the spark within us that demands a change either in ourselves or in the environment around us that leads to engaging someone in a certain behavior. It encourages a person to initiate and sustain actions to get the job done.

It is when you find a strong desire to do or achieve something, and you work with all your heart to pursue the goal. It can arise from different sources, internal or external. Indeed, people have various motives for adopting certain behaviors.

Motivation is something that encourages, directs and maintains goal-oriented behavior. It is governed by the satisfaction of needs that are essential to sustain life or necessary for well-being and growth.

It is the job of company management to develop a will to do the job in the best way among employees.

It is a known fact that when an employee is highly motivated, their level of productivity and quality of work is also high, and they will be more engaged and feel more committed to their work.

Types of Motivation
Positive Motivation: This is a reward for good performance. To be precise, positive motivation is the actual motivation related to the salary, prestige, promotion and praise of the individual.

Negative Motivation: When a person’s behavior is motivated by fear or anticipation that if the employee does not perform the task effectively, then it can attract unwanted results such as fear of losing his job, fear of punishment, transfer, etc.

Motivation is an internal drive that moves an individual into a certain behavior or action and encourages him to continue to do the same thing. It encourages a person to turn his potential for work into practice.

Definition of Spirit

Enthusiasm can be defined as a combination of psychic qualities that show courage, enthusiasm, and confidence to carry out a task. It is an intangible factor associated with the conditions of people and the work environment with respect to determination, self-confidence and enthusiasm while doing work.

It is mental attitude, emotional strength and a state of being comfortable, healthy, and happy. It has the ability to influence output, product quality, costs, enthusiasm, initiative and other components of success.

An employee’s morale is based on the total satisfaction that a person gets from his job, his work team, his supervisor, the company and his work environment.

Factors Affecting Employee Morale:

  • Company credibility
  • Management attitude towards human resources
  • Job satisfaction
  • The nature of the work, in terms of risk, monotony, goals, etc.
  • Supervision
  • Motivation level
  • Rewards and punishments

Spirit is strongly influenced by feelings. Therefore, companies must keep where the morale of employees is high, their approach to work is enthusiastic, passionate and energetic. This can be seen in their cooperation in achieving goals, discipline, loyalty, participation and involvement, and sensible initiative.

Difference Between Motivation and Passion

  • Motivation refers to internal processes, which enhance, encourage and stimulate employees so as to produce goal-oriented behavior. On the other hand, enthusiasm is the psychological state of an individual, which is reflected in his mood, self-confidence, discipline, enthusiasm, cooperation, and loyalty to work and company.
  • Motivation is simply an inner psychological drive, which drives employees to behave in a certain way. As against, passion is a social-emotional association.
  • Motivation is given priority over passion in every company because when an employee is highly motivated, productivity will also be higher.
  • Motivation is an individual concept, as it considers individual differences between employees. On the other hand, passion is a group concept, as it takes into account the factors that impact the entire work environment and the people who work in that environment.
  • Factors affecting employee motivation are related to individual performance, say salary, promotion, achievement or not achieving goals etc. In contrast, the factors that affect employee morale relate to the overall work environment, including supervision, rewards and recognition, job satisfaction, work climate, etc.
  • Motivational supplements that complement or increase employee morale. On the other hand, enthusiasm is one of the determinants of motivation, namely a factor that affects the motivation of an employee.

Red Thread | In general, both employee motivation and morale are related to the company’s reward system. Therefore, when giving gifts, certain factors must be considered, such as employee performance.

If the employee’s performance is not up to the mark of his hard work and efforts to reach the level of performance, sincerity in learning and achieving performance regardless of the difficulties. Make comparisons between jobs, to analyze and appreciate the limited state of success.

It should be noted that rewarding employees for their achievements is significant, but it is even more important to reward genuine efforts.
